Senate Approves Veterans Health Legislation

November 21, 2003 - The Senate Nov. 19 approved by voice vote legislation (S. 1156) encompassing several veterans health care-related provisions that Senators have been "pre-conferenced" with their House counterparts. The House is expected to take up the bill later this week. S. 1156 contains many of the provisions approved by the House as part of H.R. 1720 on Oct. 29 [see Washington Highlights, Oct. 31]. Among the specific provisions included in the bill are the establishment of a VA Office of Research Oversight, authorization of construction and renovation projects in six states, authorization for the appointment of chiropractors at VA facilities, and an increase in the threshold for major construction projects.
