NIH Establishes Steering Committee to Streamline Decision Making

August 1, 2003 - National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D., July 25 announced the formation of a steering committee made up of 10 directors representing the 27 institutes and centers at NIH to give "crisp strategic direction" to the agency and streamline the decision making process. Dr. Zerhouni will chair the committee, which will have permanent membership from the three largest institutes, the National Cancer Institute, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The other seven members, representing the remaining institutes and centers, will serve three-year terms on a staggered, rotating basis.
