Senators Urge Full Funding
for Health Professions
June 27, 2003 - In a letter organized by Senators
Jack Reed (D-R.I.) and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) to Senate Labor-HHS
Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Arlen Specter (R-Pa.)
and Ranking Member Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), 33 senators urged
the restoration of funds to the Title VII health professions
programs. The letter highlighted the importance of having
a well-trained health care workforce to deliver care in the
country's disadvantaged communities, noting that the health
professions programs are the only federal programs designed
to meet this need.

Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Patrick
Leahy (D-Vt.), Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.),
Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Ben Nelson
(D-Neb.), Reed, Roberts, Paul Sarbanes (D-Md.), Gordon Smith
(R-Ore.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), James Talent (R-Mo.),
