AAMC, Friends of AHRQ Honor Clancy

June 6, 2003 - At a June 4 reception on Capitol Hill, the AAMC, the Coalition for Health Services Research and other organizations honored Carolyn Clancy, M.D., the new director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Representing the Friends of AHRQ, AAMC President Jordan J. Cohen, M.D., praised Dr. Clancy for her leadership and efforts in health services research and her commitment to improving health care quality.

Prior to the reception, the Friends of AHRQ held a briefing on patient safety research. The briefing featured presentations by the nation's leading experts on patient safety, including Lucian Leape, M.D., Harvard School of Public Health; Brent James, M.D., Institute for Health Care Delivery Research at Intermountain Health Care; and Dr. Clancy. Dana Pavey, director of research for Newt Gingrich at the American Enterprise Institute also spoke on the role of research in transforming health care.
