OMB Director to Step Down

May 9, 2003 - Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mitch Daniels May 6 announced his intention to resign his position, effective 30 days after his announcement. It has been widely speculated that Mr. Daniels intends to run for governor of Indiana in 2004. A former aide to President Ronald Reagan (R) and Senator Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), and pharmaceutical executive, Mr. Daniels has served as OMB Director since January 2001. OMB's mission is to assist the President in the preparation of the federal budget and to supervise its administration in the executive branch agencies.
