State Bioterrorism Funds
Announced
March 21, 2003 - The Department of Health and Human
Services (HHS) March 20 announced
that it would award $1.4 billion to states to enhance their
bioterrorism preparedness. $870 million is directed to the
state public health agencies, and $498 million will be provided
to states to support hospital preparedness. States are again
required to submit work plans, and funds will released upon
approval of the plans. States may receive up to 20 percent
of their allocation immediately for specific activities, such
as supporting the administration of smallpox vaccinations.
