Kington Named NIH Deputy Director

February 14, 2003 - National Institutes of Health Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D., Feb. 10 named Raynard Kington, M.D., Ph.D., as the agency's new Deputy Director. Dr. Kington has served as NIH Associate Director for Behavioral and Social Sciences Research since November 2000, and served as Acting Director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) from January to September 2002. Prior to joining the NIH, Dr. Kington served as Director of the Division of Health Examination Statistics at the National Center for Health Statistics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago.
