INS Extends SEVIS Deadline

January 31, 2003 - The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) Jan. 29 announced a decision to grant a grace period until Feb. 15 for schools that have experienced difficulty accessing or using the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Schools had previously been required to begin entering data for all new students and those current students with new reportable events into the system by Jan. 30. SEVIS is the agency's new database to monitor and track foreign students. The deadline for all students to be entered into SEVIS remains Aug. 1.
