Hospital Associations Call on Congress to Sign Pledge to Enact Payment Relief

October 25, 2002-The AAMC and seven other hospital organizations are calling on Congress to sign a "Commitment to My Community's Hospitals" in support of restoring Medicare and Medicaid funds cut as of Oct. 1. To be agreed to and signed by both senators and representatives, the pledge also states that "Congress should not vote to adjourn until we have passed and the President has signed legislation providing substantial Medicare and Medicaid provider payment improvements - at least at the level included in H.R. 4954 or S. 3018 - for America's hospitals and the patients and communities they serve."

The pledge is a key part of an advocacy strategy to make hospital provider payment relief a "must do" priority for Congress when they return Nov. 12 to Washington, D.C. for a "lame duck" session after the election.

The American Hospital Association, Catholic Health Association, Federation of American Hospitals, National Association of Children's Hospitals, National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, Premier, and VHA are joining with the AAMC to work with its member hospitals to secure Congressional signatures.
