Congress Approves CR through Nov. 22

October 18, 2002-The House and Senate Oct. 16 passed by voice vote a continuing resolution (CR) (H. J. Res. 123) that will keep the government running at FY 02 levels until Nov. 22. House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) have indicated they expect the House and Senate, respectively, to return for a lame-duck session the week following the Nov. 5 elections. In the interim, both chambers will be in pro forma sessions; however, no votes are expected. The Senate approved the FY 03 Defense appropriations bill on Oct. 16, making it just the second (along with Military Construction) of 13 annual appropriations bills to be cleared for the President's signature.
