New Directors Named at NIMH, NIAAA

September 13, 2002-National Institutes of Health Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D., Sept. 10 announced the appointments of new directors at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). Taking over at NIMH is Thomas Insel, M.D., currently a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Director of the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Insel is expected to begin his appointment in November. The new director of NIAAA is Ting-Kai Li, M.D. plans to take over in the next several weeks. Dr. Li is currently Distinguished Professor, Department of Medicine, and of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine.
