Committee Approves Surgeon General Nomination

July 19, 2002 - The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee July 17 approved the nomination of Richard Carmona, M.D. to be Surgeon General. Dr. Carmona was nominated by the president March 26 [see Washington Highlights, March 29], and his confirmation hearing was held July 9. The full Senate is expected to easily confirm his nomination.
