House, Senate Release Subcommittee
Allocations
June 28, 2002- House Appropriations Committee Chairman
C.W. Bill Young (R-Fla.) June 24 released the proposed FY
2003 allocations, often called 302(b) allocations, which set
the overall spending limit for each of the 13 appropriations
subcommittees. For the Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee, the
committee allocated $129.9 billion, an amount equal to the
President's FY 2003 budget request and $6.5 billion (5.2 percent)
higher than the allocation the subcommittee received last
year. For the VA-HUD-Independent Agencies subcommittee, the
House allocated $91.8 billion, which is $6.6 billion (7.7
percent) more than last year, but nearly $680 million less
than the President's request.
Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
released 302(b) allocations for his subcommittees on June
27. The Senate total is $770.3 billion, which is $84 billion
(12.3 percent) more than last year and $11 billion more than
the House total of $758.1 billion. For Labor-HHS, the Senate
allocated $134.3 billion, $10.9 billion (8.8 percent) more
than FY 2002 and $4.4 billion more than the House allocation.
For VA-HUD, the Senate number is $92.9 billion, which is $7.6
billion (9 percent) more than last year and $1.1 billion more
than the House.
