Whitescarver Named Director of OAR

May 31, 2002- National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D., May 30 announced the appointment of Jack Whitescarver, Ph.D., as director of the NIH Office of AIDS Research (OAR). Dr. Whitescarver has served as the acting director of OAR since October 2000. Dr. Whitescarver received his doctorate in medical microbiology from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Before coming to the OAR in 1988, Dr. Whitescarver served as Special Assistant to the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and as Associate Dean for Research Development and Assistant Professor of Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine.
