New Director Named to Office of Public Health Preparedness

May 10, 2002 - Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson May 3 announced the appointment of Jerome M. Hauer, M.P.H., as the new director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness, replacing D.A. Henderson, M.D., who will remain principal science advisor to the secretary for public health preparedness and chairman of the Secretary's Council on Public Health Preparedness. Mr. Hauer currently serves as advisor to the secretary for national security and emergency management. In his new position, he will oversee and coordinate the department's planning, response and recovery efforts for all emergencies, including terrorism.
