Durbin Introduces IME Legislation

May 3, 2002- Senator Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) May 2 introduced legislation, "The Teaching Hospital Preservation Act" (S. 2447), that would prevent Medicare Indirect Medical Education (IME) payments from being reduced from 6.5 percent to 5.5 percent. The following 14 Senators were original cosponsors of the legislation: Cantwell (D-Wash.), Cleland (D-Ga.) Clinton (D-N.Y.), Dayton (D-Minn.), Edwards (D-N.C.), Feinstein (D-Calif.), Helms (R-N.C.), Kennedy (D-Mass.), Kerry (D-Mass.), Landrieu (D-La.), Murray (D-Wash.), Schumer (D-N.Y.) Specter (R-Pa.), and Torricelli (D-N.J.).
