April 5, 2002 - The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced March 29 [67 Federal Register 15206] the availability of $140 million in competitive grants for health-related costs incurred by organizations as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist acts. Applications must be postmarked by May 13. Eligible applicants are public entities, not-for-profit entities, and Medicare and Medicaid enrolled suppliers and institutional providers that incurred healthcare-related costs that were directly attributable to the public health emergency resulting from the Sept 11 attacks. Applicants must located be in specific geographic areas in New York; New Jersey; Virginia; Washington, DC; Maryland; or Pennsylvania. Applicants that submitted applications for the first round of funding but were not deemed eligible or did not receive full funding for which they were deemed eligible, may apply for these grants.
