FY 2002 NRSA Stipend Levels Announced

January 25, 2002 - The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Jan. 22 announced stipend levels for National Research Service Awards (NRSA) made with FY 2002 funds. The annual stipend levels apply to all individuals receiving support through institutional research training grants or individual fellowships, including the Minority Access to Research Career (MARC) and Career Opportunities in Research (COR) programs. The stipend for predoctoral trainees and fellows is increased to $18,156, and the level for postdoctoral individuals ranges from $31,092 to $48,852, based on the number of years of experience. The announcement also notes increases in the institutional allowance and training related expenses for NRSA recipients. Competing and non-competing awards made on or after Oct. 1, 2001 that used the FY 2001 stipend schedule will be revised by the NIH awarding component to reflect the new levels.
