On the Hill
The House and Senate are currently operating under the second continuing
resolution (CR) of the year (H.J.Res.
68) which funds the federal government at FY 2001 levels until Oct.
23. The House Oct. 17 passed by voice vote a new CR (H.J.Res.
69) that would continue government operations until Oct. 31.
Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) and Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) won special elections
Oct. 16 to replace the late Joseph Moakley (D-Mass.) and recently retired
Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.), respectively. These new additions bring the
House party breakdown to 220 Republicans, 211 Democrats, and 2 Independents,
with 2 remaining vacancies.
