Satcher Announces February Departure

Surgeon General David Satcher, M.D., announced Nov. 2 that he does not plan to stay on in his current position when his term expires on Feb. 13, 2002. A former president of Meharry Medical College and director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Satcher was appointed as the 16th U.S. Surgeon General by former President Bill Clinton in 1998.
