VA-HUD Conference
Report Includes Increases for VA, NSF
The conference report on the FY 2002 VA, HUD and Independent Agencies
Appropriations bill (H.
Rept. 107-272) includes significant increases for VA medical care
and research as well as the National Science Foundation. The House and
the Senate approved the conference report on Nov. 8, clearing the bill
for presidential action.
Specifically, the conference report provides $21.33 billion for VA
medical care, a $1.09 billion (5.4 percent) increase over FY 2001, and
$371 million for VA medical and prosthetics research, an increase of
$20 million (5.7 percent). For the National Science Foundation, the
conference report provides $4.79 billion, an increase of $363 million
(8.4 percent), including $3.60 for NSF research, an increase of $260
million (7.8 percent).
