Bush Announces
Review of Student Visa Policies
President Bush Oct. 29 announced a Presidential
Directive that would, among other provisions, order a thorough review
of the current student visa policy. Although few specific details of
the new policy were articulated, President Bush noted that "if
a person applies for a student visa and gets that visa, we want to make
sure that person actually goes to school; in other words, if they're
using the visas for the intended purpose." The directive also creates
a Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force and calls for better coordination
of immigration and customs policies with Canada and Mexico.
