House to Delay
Labor-HHS Funding Bill Until September
House Appropriations Committee staff have indicated the committee plans
to move 10 of the 13 regular spending bills to the House floor before
the August recess, but that subcommittee consideration of the Labor-HHS-Education
bill will not begin until after Labor Day. The other bills to be delayed
until September are the defense and military construction appropriations.
The tentative schedule calls for subcommittee mark-ups to begin June
6 with the agriculture bill. The committee hopes to secure House passage
of the agriculture, interior, energy and water, and transportation appropriations
bills before the Fourth of July recess. The VA-HUD subcommittee would
consider its bill during the last week of June, with floor action in
July.
Meanwhile, House Appropriations Committee Chair Bill Young (R-Fla.)
told reporters that he plans to release the subcommittee's allocations
as early as June 8, with the full committee voting June 13.
