Garthwaite Resigns at VA

Under Secretary for Health at the Department of Veterans Affairs Thomas L. Garthwaite M.D., announced his resignation May 15. Dr. Garthwaite will remain in his position until a search committee identifies his replacement. Dr. Garthwaite has served as Under Secretary of Health since May 15, 2000, serving as Acting Under Secretary and Deputy Under Secretary since he joined the VA in 1995. In his resignation letter, Dr. Garthwaite cited a desire to seek other health care opportunities closer to the patient and that his departure would allow VA Secretary Anthony Principi to name his own Under Secretary.
