The AAMC, along with 19 other trade associations representing consumers,
employers, providers, and health insurance plans, March 19 sent a letter to Congress urging funds in the FY 2002 budget resolution to be set
aside to address the uninsured issue.
"With Congress about to develop its budget blueprint, now is the
time to make a real difference by reserving a portion of the budget surplus
to help reduce the number of Americans without health care coverage"
states the letter.
Other trade association signing the letter include the American Association
of Health Plans, American Hospital Association, American Medical Association,
American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association, American Osteopathic
Healthcare Association, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, Catholic
Health Association of the United States, Families USA, Federation of American
Hospitals, Healthcare Financial Management Association, Healthcare Leadership
Council, Health Insurance Association of America, National Association
of Manufacturers, National Association of Psychiatric Health Systems, National
Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, National Association
of Urban Hospitals, Premier, Inc., U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and VHA, Inc.
Expanding coverage to the uninsured is one of the AAMC's top legislative
priorities for 2001.
