AHRQ Unveils Program to Improve Distribution of Grants

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) announced Feb. 27 the new Building Research Infrastructure and Capacity (BRIC) Program. This grant program is intended to broaden geographic distribution of health services research funding by increasing the competitiveness among institutions located in states with a historically low number of AHRQ grants. AHRQ expects to award up to $1 million in FY 2001 to support three to six grants.

The states eligible for BRIC grants include the following plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, and Wyoming.

Letters of intent are due April 1, 2001; applications are due April 24, 2001.
