House Panel Issues
Call for Feedback On Higher Education Act Regulations
Reps. Howard "Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.) and Patsy Mink (D-Hawaii), chairman
and ranking member, respectively, of the House Education and the Workforce
Subcommittee on 21st Century Competitiveness, announced June 6 a plan
to elicit feedback from the public regarding regulations under the Higher
Education Act. Dubbed the "Upping the Effectiveness of our Federal Student
Aid Programs" initiative or "Fed. Up" for short, the announcement states
that "[R]egulatory reform is a promising avenue to improving the student
aid programs and giving as many students as possible a chance to be
prepared for the 21st Century economy." Reps. McKeon and Mink are asking
the public which regulations they feel need to be changed and why. Comments
may be submitted until July 20 via the Subcommittee's
Web site or via E-mail.
Submissions are requested to include the specific regulation citations,
the corresponding statutory authority, the specific language of suggested
changes, and the rationale for the changes.
