House Panel Approves
Subcommittee Allocations
The House Appropriations Committee June 13 formally approved its 302(b)
subcommittee allocations for FY 2002. The allocations limit the amount
each subcommittee can spend on programs under its jurisdiction. Overall,
the committee allocated $661.3 billion in discretionary budget authority
for FY 2002. This is $27.2 billion (4.3 percent) over the current FY
2001 level of $634.2 billion and $2.5 billion more than the President's
FY 2002 budget request.
For the Labor-HHS-Education subcommittee, the committee allocated $119.8
billion. This is $11.3 billion (10.4 percent) more than FY 2001 and
$4.1 billion more than the President's FY 2002 budget. The subcommittee
allocated $84.2 billion for the VA-HUD subcommittee. This is $3.6 billion
(4.5 percent) more than FY 2001 and $800 million above the President's
