Appropriations Committees Approve FY 2002 Increases for VA Research,

The House
and Senate
Appropriations Committees approved their FY 2002 VA-HUD appropriations
bills on July 17 and 19, respectively. House appropriators provided
$371 for VA medical and prosthetics research, an increase of 20 million
(5.7 percent) over FY 2001; the Senate committee countered with $390
million, an increase of $40 million (11.4 percent). House and Senate
appropriators approved appropriations of $4.84 billion, an increase
of $414 million (9.35 percent) and $4.6 billion, an increase of $256
million (5.8 percent), respectively, for the National Science Foundation.
House floor consideration of the bill may come as early as July 26.
