NIH Increases Training Stipends

NIH Jan. 8 announced stipend increases for National Research Service awards (NRSA) to pre-doctoral and postdoctoral trainees.

The new stipend levels are as follows:

Predoctoral                         $16,500

Postdoctoral
(Years of Experience)
0                                         $28,260
1                                         $29,832
2                                         $35,196
3                                         $36,996
4                                         $38,772
5                                         $40,560
6                                         $42,348
7 or more                            $44,412

These levels are a 9.6 percent increase in the predoctoral stipend and an average increase of 5 percent for the postdoctoral rates. The budgetary changes will take effect for NRSA Awards made with FY 2001 funds. The notice will be published in the Jan. 12 issue of the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts.
