Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) Jan. 4 announced the results
of the Republican selections for House committee chairs for the 107th Congress.
Republicans selected Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) to head the Ways and Means
Committee and Billy Tauzin (R-La.) to chair the Commerce Committee. C.W.
Bill Young (R-Fla.) will remain as Appropriations chair while Jim Nussle
(R-Iowa) was tabbed to head the Budget Committee. Other committee chairs
for the 107th Congress are:
Agriculture - Larry Combest (R-Texas);
Armed Services - Bob Stump (R-Ariz.);
Financial Services (formerly Banking) - Mike Oxley (R-Ohio);
Education and the Workforce - John Boehner (R-Ohio);
Government Reform - Dan Burton (R-Ind.);
International Relations - Henry Hyde (R-Ill.);
Judiciary - James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.);
Resources - James Hansen (R-Utah);
Science - Sherwood Boehlert (R-N.Y.);
Select Intelligence - Porter Goss (R-Fla.);
Small Business - Don Manzullo (R-Ill.);
Standards of Official Conduct - Joel Hefley (R-Colo.);
Transportation - Don Young (R-Alaska); and
Veterans' Affairs - Chris Smith (R-N.J.).
