President-elect George W. Bush has completed the list of nominations
for his cabinet. On Dec. 29, he nominated Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson
(R) to be Secretary of Health and Human Services, former deputy and acting
secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony Principi to be Secretary of Veterans
Affairs, and Houston School Superintendent Rod Paige to be Secretary of
Education.
Dennis Smith, director, Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services,
has been named to head the Bush
transition team policy coordination group for HHS. Other members of
the HHS group are Sally Canfield, Bush campaign policy adviser and former
health policy aide to Rep. Jim McCrery (R-La.); Cassie Veban, professional
assistant, House Committee on Ways and Means; Anne Phelps, staff director,
Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee on Public Health;
and Kathleen Tobin, State of Michigan Department of Community.
