The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking applicants
for $40 million in grants under the Community
Access Program (CAP), part of the HHS effort to improve access to medical
care for uninsured Americans. HRSA predicts the grants will enable approximately
40 local communities to integrate providers who traditionally treat the
uninsured into networks that offer a range of services to uninsured local
residents.
The agency awarded about $22 million in FY 2000 grants and has said
that some of the FY 2001 CAP budget of $125 million will go to fund FY
2000 applicants whose proposals could not be supported at that time. Applicants
must be private, public, or nonprofit entities with a commitment to providing
health care to the uninsured and underinsured.
Completed grant applications are due May 7, and HRSA will announce the
awardees in September.
