Health Professions Education, FY 2008 Funding
On July 18, the House of Representatives approved, 276-140, its
FY 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education spending
bill. The bill provides $228.3 million for Title VII health professions
programs, a $43.6 million (23.6 percent) increase over FY 2007.
The Senate Appropriations Committee approved its version of the
spending bill on June 21. The Committee provides $187.7 million
for Title VII, a $3.0 million (1.6 percent) increase. As in past
years, the President's FY 2008 budget eliminates all Title VII funds
with the exception of the $10 million for Scholarships for Disadvantaged
Students (SDS).
Health Professions Education, FY 2007 Funding
The FY 2007 Funding Resolution signed by the President on February
15 restores funding for geriatric training to the FY 2005 level
and provides an $8 million (19.6 percent) increase over FY 2006
levels for primary care medicine and dentistry programs. More >>
Title VII Health Professions Student Loan Programs
The President's FY 2007 Budget Request proposes to recall the "Federal
portion of all of the liquid assets" of the Title VII and Title
VIII student loan programs. The Administration estimates this rescission
will recall over $100 million from the student loan programs. More >>
