CorrespondenceLetter to House and Senate Conferees January 14, 2002 The Honorable
David Obey Dear Representative Obey: The undersigned members of the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) thank you for providing a funding increase for the health professions programs authorized under Title VII and VIII of the Public Health Service Act. With a rapidly changing health care delivery environment, there is a pressing need for the well-trained, diverse supply of health care providers educated through these programs. By providing $378 million for the Title VII and VIII health professions programs, you have enabled these programs to continue to diversify and improve the quality of the health professions population. Further, this funding ensures that well-trained medical professionals can work in rural and other underserved areas, where quality health care is most desperately needed. The members of HPNEC applaud your continued commitment to these programs that serve to expand and diversify the health care workforce. As you know, a top priority for many Americans is access to quality health care, and health professions and nursing education programs are a critical element in providing this access. We look forward to working with you in the upcoming year to continue the necessary support for these important programs. Sincerely, HPNEC |
