Letter to all House and Senate Labor/HHS Appropriations Subcommittee Members

October 16, 2001

The Honorable Ralph Regula
Chairman
Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services
and Education Appropriations
2358 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Mr. Chairman:

The Coalition for Health Funding thanks you for your leadership in effecting a balanced bill, with regard to health programs, in appropriating FY 2002 funds for the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies.

While not every health program received an increase, or the increase our organizations had advocated, the Coalition is pleased that, in large part, the Subcommittee's bill recognized the Coalition's guiding principle that improved health outcomes can only be achieved through strong support for the continuum of biomedical, behavioral and health services research; community based health promotion and disease prevention strategies; targeted health care services for vulnerable and medically underserved populations; and education of a healthcare workforce in adequate supply.

As your attention turns to the House-Senate conference to resolve differences in the two versions of the bill, the Coalition urges you to continue to give high priority to health programs and the critically important activities they effect and the communities they serve.

Sincerely,

David B. Moore
President
