2009 Grant Recipients Sponsored by AAMC
Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine: Health Outreach through
Medicine and Education (HOME) - The HOME organization serves emergency
homeless shelters in the Phoenix area by providing free medical care
and preventive education for patients.
Howard University College of Medicine: New Freedmen's Clinic (NFC)
- NFC is a student-run clinic which serves the uninsured and underinsured
residents of D.C. In addition to providing primary and preventable
care services, the clinic also provides classes on disease prevention.
Jefferson Medical College: Jeff HOPE - Jeff HOPE provides comprehensive
medical care and referrals for underserved patients at homeless shelter
sites throughout Philadelphia.
Medical College of Wisconsin: Hmong Health Education Program (HHEP)
- The HHEP addresses the need to improve communication of health
education and healthcare services for Wisconsin's Hmong population
via educational workshops, support groups, outreach programs, demonstrations,
newsletters, talk shows, and public service announcements.
Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences: UGM-PNWU Community
Clinic - The UGM-PNWU Community Clinic will revitalize and restructure
a former clinic in order to provide health care services to medically
uninsured populations.
Stanford University School of Medicine: Santa Clara Hep B Free
Campaign - The Santa Clara Hep B Free Campaign strives to improve
the health status of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans by eliminating
the threat of chronic hepatitis B virus infection and liver cancer.
This outreach and education program creates awareness, screens for
the disease, and vaccinates at risk populations.
UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine: REACH (Revitalizing Education
& Advancing Camden's Health) - REACH addresses the needs of middle
school aged youth by teaching preventative community health and facilitating
youth initiated community health service projects.
